We are very pleased to announce the premiere of Richard’s new composition, a recorder concerto entitled ‘Concerto Incantato’ (Enchanted Concerto), in Hong Kong on 11th October 2009.

Richard was delighted to be asked to write this piece to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. It will be performed by the brilliant Danish recorder player Michala Petri, accompanied of course by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong & led by chief conductor Jean Thorel.

Concerto Incantato could easily be described as a concerto for the Harry Potter generation. It is a piece in five movements written for flauto dolce (recorder) in sopranino, soprano, alto & tenor sizes, with chamber orchestra. The early movements induce a sense of magic & wonderment, leading us through lost worlds inhabited by playful sprites & whispy apparitions; the mood then becomes one of reflection & meditation before the final incantation invoking enchantment in the air!
